A Troop Full of Heroes!
Every year for the last four years, Troop 200 has sold Girl Scout cookies, and every year, they donate their proceeds to a charity that the Troop votes to support. This year, the 13 fourth graders at Mary Munford Elementary School in Richmond, Virginia, decided unanimously to donate their cookie money to Connor's Heroes.
Cancer awareness has been high at the Richmond City school this year. A first grader diagnosed with leukemia received a bone marrow transplant, and the daughter of a pair of the school's teachers, a former Munford graduate herself, was diagnosed with lymphoma. The school organized a fund raiser called Merry Munificence where people could make a donation to Connor's Heroes in honor of a teacher, family member or friend as a gift. The school also helped to stuff backpacks for newly diagnosed cancer patients. So when the troop met to decide the charity for this year, the girls had only one organization in mind. The Junior troop donated $500.00 of their cookie money to Connor's Heroes.
To celebrate the end of the year, the girls got to meet Connor, his sister Emily, and mom Lisa at a party at All Fired Up. What a great way to end the year!
