Heroes Bags and Backpacks

Connor's Heroes Foundation provides backpacks and tote bags to the Children's Medical Center at VCU Health System in Richmond, Virginia for delivery to newly-diagnosed patients and their parents. The backpacks contain age-appropriate gifts and activities for the patient, as well as, snacks, tissues, chapstick, lotions, slipper socks, and stuffed animals. The canvas totebags for the parents include lotions, tissues, antibacterial wipes and lotion, snacks, playing cards, and vouchers for meals in the hospital from MoJo's or Piccola's or after the family arrives home from the first hospital stay from Dinner A'Fare, a free housecleaning by Maid to Perfection, a pre-paid phone card and gas card, notecards and stamps, and information on how to design a free web page through Care Pages to stay in touch with family and friends. The tote bags also contain a fantastic Welcome Book compiled and provided by ASK, The Association for the Support of Children with Cancer. The tote bags and backpacks are intended to help families through this time of crisis and relieve some of the strain and stress during this difficult time in their lives.

We also expanded this program to include families whose child relapses, families who lose a child, and families whose child transitions to the bone marrow transplant unit.
