Christmas In July Part 1
Connor’s Heroes celebrated Christmas In July! Thanks to our volunteers who made crafts with our heroes and siblings. Thanks to our Program Team (Erin & Fran) for toting in all the supplies, ordering lunches, and bringing much-needed support to our families.
Thomas's Hospital Room
Nothing warms our heart more than when a hero family pays it forward to another hero family. This week, our young hero Lauren and her family decorated the room of a teen boy who will start his bone marrow transplant. Lauren’s family remembers what it was like to be isolated on the 10th floor for an extended period of time. Several years ago, brave Lauren endured her own transplant to treat her brain tumor.
July 2019 Art Sessions
We brought the beauty of a summer flower garden to the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. Our heroes picked beautiful flowers freshly cut from the garden of Sarah and the Cross family! The children decorated glass jars to use as their vases. It was a simple, but special summer Heroes Art Session.
Charlie
Our hero, Charlie, is dreaming about baseball! ⚾️Her mom thanked us for the Family Fun Pack with free tickets to a Flying Squirrels baseball game. All thanks to our friends at Virginia Business Systems.
2019 Brandermill 7.4k
This year’s July 4th race raised $7,208 for our childhood cancer heroes. Race Coordinator Greg said registration was at an all-time high. We are grateful for Greg, his team, the generous sponsors, and all the runners who celebrated the Fourth of July by helping our Heroes of RVA!

Today’s Helping Hero is Virginia Business Systems. They packed up “Night at the Ballpark” Family Fun Packs. Inside is everything a hero will need to enjoy a Flying Squirrels game at The Diamond, including complimentary tickets for the whole family. Thank you, VBS!

Tour of Children's Inpatient Hospital
Connor’s Heroes team met with our friends at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU and the Children’s Hospital Foundation. We talked about our continued partnership as construction for the new inpatient hospital begins. We walked through the mock-up of what the new inpatient rooms will look and feel like. Exciting things are on the horizon for our hero families.
Mom Appreciates Gift Card
Whit’s mom recently shared this with Celia and Erin: “I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! I received a Kroger card a couple of weeks ago – it came at a perfect time! Just love all you all are doing and just want you to know it is VERY MUCH appreciated!”
Every other month Connor’s Heroes sends out a $100 gas or grocery gift card to hero families with a child in active treatment. A gift card from Connor’s Heroes is more than a monetary gift. It reminds a family that there is a community of heroes who want to help their child and family during this difficult journey. Thank you for being a part of this special community!
