Haymaker Productions Inc. present…
Bruce Hornsby – Regarded as a music legend and inspiration, Bruce is returning to Virginia this summer and will play with his band, The Noisemakers.

Amos Lee – Lee’s folksy, bluesy sound utilizes the supple funk of his vocals and arid strum of his guitar while recalling the low-volume, early-’70s acoustic soul of stars like Bill Withers and Minnie Ripperton.

Tariq and New Day Equine Therapy - a pilot program for Connors Heroes

Equine Therapy

Connor’s Heroes is piloting a program for our childhood cancer heroes: Equine Therapy. Bruce Nachman, owner of New Day Equine in Ashland, told us about the positive effects of childhood cancer patients working with horses. First one to jump at the chance was Tariq. This brave boy overcame many obstacles in treating his brain tumor. Here he is now confidently riding a horse. We are piloting the program with other hero families. Based on Tariq’s first session, we are off on the right foot (or hoof!).

Sadie, a child helped through Connors Heroes in Richmond Virginia

Sadie and Maid Brigade

Sadie is having a great time running around her sparkling clean house. For some of our hero families, Connor’s Heroes arranges for a free house cleaning by Maid Brigade. Valerie, Sadie’s mom, said it was a relief to come home to a clean house after traveling to Philadelphia for Sadie’s treatments.

Q: Why do you believe it is important to give back to your community?
A: It's easy to enjoy our communities and the benefits they provide to us. It's also easy to overlook the fact that communities require effort and resources to maintain and improve them. We have to be willing to give back by way of relationships, volunteering, financial resources, etc. Our communities can be as great as we are willing to make them.

A: I have lived in Virginia for 20 years having been born in New Jersey and lived in Nevada and California. I received my BS in accounting from Longwood University.
