Zachary

Zachary first felt the pain in his arm the day he made the JV soccer team for James River High School on February 24, 2011. Two weeks later he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his upper left arm. He endured nine months of chemotherapy and limb salvage surgery to remove the tumor and save his arm. Zach completed his treatments in December 2011. He is cancer free. On February 23, 2012, Zach once again made the JV soccer team at James River. The same determination he showed throughout his treatments came through again as he worked to regain his strength so he could return to the soccer field. Throughout this experience, Zachary has kept his studies on track, maintained a positive attitude and formed many wonderful friendships with the nurses and doctors at the outpatient clinic and on the 7th floor Pediatric Acute Care at MCV.
